How To Create An Anthropologie Inspired Baby Shower {On A Budget}

I think my favorite part about getting designs ready for an install is the process. From the early beginning stages where I spend countless hours researching and gathering ideas after an initial meeting with a client, to purchasing items and getting creative with the concept so that the vision is realized in a unique way, to the day of when my team and I install and literally “style in the details”. It is a lot of hard work, that goes without saying, but I love my job! Recently, a friend of mine asked me to style in some details for her upcoming baby shower. The parents-to-be are expecting a beautiful baby boy and their bohemian spirit really lends itself to the Anthropologie inspired Baby Shower they envision for the celebration of their bundle of joy. Come along as I take you on a journey into my process as I Style In The Details for this free spirited bohemian Anthro inspired Baby Shower!

Choose your color palette First I start with the color palette. This is so important and virtually leads the direction the design will go. Here mom-to-be asked for a neutral color palette. I immediately thought soft and creamy whites. Now, its always nice to add a bit of color. Its very simple to do once you’ve decided what those secondary colors will be. When I received the Save-The-Date I was drawn to the navy blue and mint color hues in the invite. This would be my “pops” of color. They don’t have to be overwhelming just added in subtly. I’ll touch upon how I go about doing that later.

Use what you already have Maybe you have old vintage glass vases or drink glasses, or mason jars you can paint in the shower colors, or wooden bowls or serving dishes. These are all items that can be used to really tell the story and evoke the feel of bohemian chic. Here I plan to collect spaghetti sauce jars as my mason jars and paint them in hues of blues and creams. This will be a beautiful vessel for the Baby’s Breath and White Stock that will go in them. So anthro right? And so cost effective!

Create a DIY Flower Crown Station This is something that can easily be created. Simply grab a spare table, display inexpensive blooms (real or faux) in glass cylinders, organize the rest of your supplies so that they are easy accessible for guests, print instructions for a DIY Flower Crown and frame them! This DIY Flower Crown Tutorial by Refinery 29 is a great one to use!

Select matching stationary Although it is great to have custom stationary made for your personalized celebration, if budget is an issue, I always opt for scouring Etsy for great stationary finds. You can often find stationary in your desired theme and color palette. Some vendors even allow for customization for an additional fee. This will give you the feel of a custom designed stationary set for a fraction of the cost! The best part is that many items are available for instant download so you can easily save to your computer and print on your own for added savings and time. To give a cohesive feel of Bohemian chic I’d choose stationary that has florals, or water colors and subtle pops of color.
Create a moment that is very Anthro  take your time and look through an Anthropologie catalogue. I especially love their home catalogue and often look there for inspiration. One vignette that is noteworthy is their colored ombre glassware. This can be recreated by sourcing colored plastic glassware and displaying them in an ombre pattern on a self serve bar. I like these and these colored plastic glassware options from Party City. These is also a great time to add a pop of color that is subtle but impactful.

Add a texture like wood, linen, burlap or lace Food can be displayed on a reclaimed wooden table, cake can be displayed on a table draped in linen or lace. Burlap can be used to wrap mason jars or used as table runners under your centerpieces. The feel of these textures brings a sense of relaxed entertaining that is so Anthro.
